It was a shocking news for me too when today it was announced in the October 2013 Apple special event that the tenth version of their popular Mac operating system, OSX 10.9 'Mavericks' will be a totally free update. The cost of the last version of OSX, Mountain Lion was $20.
All the Macintosh machines later than 2007 will be able to download and install this update totally free from the Mac App Store starting from today, that is Tuesday, October 22, 2013.
This news is certainly going to shock the competitors as other OS manufacturers still charge for upgrades.
Mavericks is coming with a bunch of new features which includes Apple Maps, Safari 7.0, iBooks and many other improvements in hardware and security.
What do you think? Is this a new marketing strategy or just another unexpected Apple news? Comment below your views.
