What to do When Your Android is Slow?

A typical problem with Android OS is that it gets slow with time. You might have noticed that your Android is not fast as it was when you purchased it. We are including some tips for maintaining your Android device's speed and how to restore its factory speed when it gets really slow.

How to Maintain the Speed of Android?

These are some simple tips you can follow to maintain the speed of your Android device.

• Keep a limited number of apps.
  Too many apps is the primary reason for your Android device to get slow. You should keep a limited number of apps which you really need and remove any unused apps.
• Disable built in unused apps.
  You cannot uninstall some built in apps but you can disable them. You will not see those apps again till you enable them again. To disable built in apps,

• Keep apps in SD Card.
  When you download and install an app, it gets installed in your phone memory. You can move some apps to SD card. Go to Settings >> Apps >> Running and tap on "Move to SD card" if the box is enabled (not all apps can be moved).
  
• Save Battery.
  You should save your battery by doing some simple manipulations like keeping low brightness, keeping wi-fi, bluetooth and data traffic off when not in use and charging when needed.

Backing up Data and Formatting SD Card

You should keep your SD card clean always but if it is really junked and you are willing to format it, this sure will boost your device's speed. You might want to back up your data before formatting.

Backing Up Contacts

When you save your contacts on one of your online accounts like Google Account, you don't need a back up but if you save them on your phone, you should back up.

1. Go to contacts.
2. Press the menu button or touch block on your phone and select "Back up contacts".
3. When it prompts the backing up place, select "Memory Card".
4. The device will show you the path where your contacts will be stored. Tap on "OK".

This will back up your contacts in SD card. But you want to format it, so don't forget to move the vcf file to your computer's hard drive.

Backing Up Text Messages

You might also want to back up your text messages. You can do this with your Gmail account. SMS Backup+ is a free app which will do this for you. Just install this app and follow the on screen instructions to backup your messages to Gmail.

Backing Up Apps

The last thing you might want to back up are your apps. You can easily back up apps using one of the many file managers. I would suggest you to use Linda File Manager.

1. Go to Linda Manager.
2. Go to Applications folder.
3. Push the menu button or touch block on your phone.
4. Select Backup all.

This will backup your apps in SD Card >> Backup >> Apps. You should move the apk files to your computer's hard drive before formatting.

Formatting SD Card

When the back up is done, you are ready to format your SD Card. Move anything you will need afterwards to your computer like music, videos, photos etc and also move the backups which were created on SD card.
Then go to Settings >> Storage >> Erase SD Card.
Confirm that you want to format your card and you'll be done.

This sure will boost up your device's speed. There's one more thing you can do.

Restoring Factory State

The biggest thing you can do to restore your phone's factory speed is to restore it to factory settings. To do this, go to Settings >> Backup and Reset.
Here you will get two options. It is recommended to keep backups as explained in the previous section.

If you want to keep the data select "Settings Reset", this will give you a small boost up in speed and since you have backed up your data, you may select "Factory data reset". Your phone will become as sweet as it was when you purchased it.
