In interview with Romil Vats (CW#2)

Romil Vats had won the second position in the WeboGraffiti Photography campaign and he was second in replying to our email in which we interviewed him. This post is a part of the Campaign Winners Series of posts in which we are featuring the winners of the WeboGraffiti Photography Campaign.

Romil is a student preparing for his engineering entrance exams. He is one of the best photographers I have come across till now. Object photography, nature, light photography etc are some genres he has a mark in. Inspite of having less resources and the pressure of performing in various other fields, this man manages his photographing career with an ease. His photos can be viewed on his facebook profile.

Mr. Vats is a multi-talented personality. As he is a student, career is his first priority of all but he is also a singer, songwriter, guitarist, keyboard player and of course a photographer. I wonder how he manages this all. We asked him a series of questions in the interview, following are the beautiful answers he replied.

Q1: Tell us a little bit about you?
I'm basically a student currently preparing for the competitive exams. I love photography; its something I can't live without. Apart from being a photographer, I'm a singer, guitarist, keyboardist, songwriter, composer, and kind of a poet.

Q2. How long have you been a photographer?
About a year.

Q3. What or who inspired you to start photography?
It was basically my friend, Aviral Parashar who inspired me to take up photography. I never thought of photography before I saw his clicks. And I was like, Yeah, I can do this.รข

Q4: What type of cameras do you prefer to shoot with?
I have two cameras; a Sony DCR-HC90E, which is basically a 3 megapixel Handycam and a Nokia N95, which is a 5 megapixel phone camera.

Q5: What is your most used Photoshop tool, plug-in action set, etc.?
I don't use Photoshop. I don't really like editing. I just adjust the basic contrast/exposure and for that I use the Microsoft Office Picture Manager.

Q6: What has been your most memorable assignment and why?
I don't really take up assignments. Photography is more of a hobby to me. I don't consider it as my profession, though I want it to be.

Q7: Which of your photographs do you like the most?
There are some photographs of dew I clicked which I simply love. I've always been into macros. It's something I can't resist.

Q8: When did you know that you have you finally "made it" as a professional?
I wouldn't like to call myself as a professional. There is still a lot for me to learn. As you can see, I don't use a DSLR. So, there's still a great part of it which is left untouched by me.

Q9: What do you like the most about your professional life?
As I said, I'm not really a professional. Photography is a hobby which I'd love to be my profession.

Q10: Any closing words or any message to our readers?
Just do what your heart says. There will always be people opposing you for what you do. As they say, Logon ka toh kaam hai kehna! There will definitely be hurdles, and people don't really think photography to be a very good career. So if you think that you have it in you, you just have to ignore the world and give wings to your dreams.

So this was all in this interview. We hope you liked reading. You can contact Romil Vats on romilvats@gmail.com. We wish him a very bright future ahead.

Thanks for reading.
