In interview with Ashmita (CW#3)

Ashmita had won the fourth position in the WeboGraffiti Photography campaign and she was third in replying to our email in which we interviewed her. This post is a part of the Campaign Winners Series of posts in which we are featuring the winners of the WeboGraffiti Photography Campaign.

Ashmita is schooling for her degree in architecture from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology. Most of the photographs in her album are about life and its forms. The genres in which this girl shoots include life, nature, architecture and art. Her photographs aren't much edited, but are still beautiful. She believes a photograph's beauty depends on its photographer.

Her facebook profile is full of photographs clicked by her, and it also can be a medium if you are contacting her. This following interview is my favorite of all as it is the best I got till now.

Q1: Tell us a little bit about you?
Trust me ,this is the most difficult question to answer.Well,.I am a 2nd year architecture student studying in MANIT , I love travelling and meeting up new people and seeing new places. I read a lot .I am usually a laid back person (read lazy ) but dive into things that capture my heart . Humour drives my life and i believe in doing and learning things in the more practical and interesting way.

Q2. How long have you been a photographer?
Though , i have always been passionate about clicking , it been a year since i'v had a camera .So , 'officially' i'v been clicking for an year now.

Q3. What or who inspired you to start photography?
The beauty of the nature especially during the starting of the rainy season really pulled me toward photography. Also, there is about a 120-140 degree view of the sky visible from the terrace of my house.and the different cloud patterns in the sky , the birds , the moon all inspired me to just pic up the camera and start clicking.

Q4: What type of cameras do you prefer to shoot with?
I feel its not the camera but the photographer that really makes a difference..For now ,i am most comfortable with my point and shoot canon sx 130..

Q5: What is your most used photoshop tool, plug-in action set, etc.?
I am avid picasa user and use quite a lot of 'shadowing' to boost my pictures.

Q6: What has been your most memorable assignment and why?
You can never say from where you'll get a good pic. My most memorable is the first photowalk that happened in my college a few days after i bought my camera.Though most of my photographs during the photowalk where just average but it was those few that were appreciated and liked that boosted me to really get into photography,I attribute a lot of my deftness in photography to that photowalk.

Q7: Which of your photographs do you like the most?
Those of my photographs that capture a deep intense human expression or the beauty of nature or is out of the frame in terms of its subject are closer to me than the rest of my captures.

Q8: When did you know that you have you finally "made it" as a professional?
I don't. I believe i still am an amateur and have a lot to learn.

Q9: What do you like the most about your professional life?
Professional life i am not too sure to be talking about that. But what i really like about being a photographer is that gives genuine pleasure to me.It is one of those very rare things for which i will get up really early in the morning . Being able to admire and capture the raw beauty of nature , little ignorable details of everyday life is what gives me a deep sense of satisfaction and calmness. What i like most about photography is the joy it gives me.

Q10: Any closing words or any message to our readers?
There is nothing like a good photograph or a bad one. Nor is it necessary that u have the best camera or a very high technical knowledge about photography. Though, these do play a part but what is most important to have a an 'eye' to know and realize the beauty in small things around you. Just start clicking.. Even if you are not so sure about your photography in the beginning , with time, its bound to improve. The mantra is to 'start ' and then there'll be no stopping you.So get up and let yourself go.

So this was all in this interview. We hope you liked reading. You can contact Ashmita on ashmita_99@rediffmail.com. We wish her a very bright future ahead.
