Have it ever been like if you were on a party or a marriage reception, you listen a song or a piece of music and you start liking the tunes?
Well this often happens with me. At many places I listen music which I start liking. Many people listen to such music and forget, and when they listen it again they remember the tunes, desperately wishing if they could get the music in their digital gadgets and they could make it a part of their playlist.
If this ever happened to you, it won't happen now. In this article of WeboGraffiti, we are going to feature a web based application which can help you search for your music using your own voice by singing, humming or playing a tune into the microphone.
midomi.com is a website which serves for the above mentioned service. It has a music box which says "Click and sing or hum". You have to click this box, and then sing or hum the song you want to search. As this box runs on Flash, you might get a confirmation dialog box from your flash player asking you to confirm that you want this website to access to your microphone. If this happens, click on "Allow".
Now just sing or hum the tunes of the song you listened and want to search. The website says "Sing at least for 10 seconds for better accuracy". So do the same. Put on your microphone and sing the part of the song you heard for 10 seconds. When you're done, the page is redirected to the result page which displays the results of the songs which matched your singing. You can now play these result songs and find the song you listened. The name of the song and the artist's name is displayed handy, you can also buy the song if you wish. You can also search for songs with their title or artist's name.
When you visit the website, you'll see a link with the text "Studio". When you click on this link, the website asks you to sing a song of your choice. You need to register with midomi for this service. When you sing a song, it gets stored in a database which contains many such songs. When a user search for a song, this database is searched. The songs which are matches the most are then selected and the original track is displayed as the result. Isn't it great?
This service is totally free for searching and registering a song into the database however, you have to pay if you want to buy a song.
For a start, try singing a song you know already, I sang "Fall for you" by Secondhand Serenade and hummed "Stairway to heaven" by Led Zeppelin and both the results were displayed accurately.
This is all I have for you in this post. I hope this will help you the next time you want to search for a song. Thanks for reading.
